【Nic先生の英語ブログを読もう!】Be optimistic and make 2022 your best year ever!

First of all, happy New Year’s to everyone out there in Japan, the Japanese diaspora, and anyone else who may be tuning in.

We’re inclusive here at Fruitful English, so the more readers and students the merrier!

Though this is traditionally a relatively sombre time of year, what with the passing of Christmas, and the holiday hangover that usually accompanies that, I can’t help but feel optimistic with what the year has in store. I think it’s clear that we’re in the best position we’ve been in for a while, and now is certainly better than at any other time in 2021.

2022年の素晴らしい新英語コースのプランをお教えしちゃいます!

I’ve got so many great plans for teaching this year, so I’m just waiting to put them into action. If I can get the time, I’ve got a few new courses that I want to unveil to students this year, but I’ll give you a little taste here.

With the emergence of COVID-19 and the ensuing pandemic, we’ve all seen our lives transformed and become more reliant on technology. At the same time, I’ve seen a huge rise in misconceptions relating to 2 topics: science and technology. So, I’ve got the perfect solution. I’ve been working on 2 courses.

The first is what I’ve tentatively called my ‘Talking Tech: Misconceptions of English and Technology’. Now that people are regularly zooming, Skyping, and using WebEx daily, everyone, including native speakers, have had to get used to an entirely new vocabulary set. There are tons of unfamiliar words and phrases to be used with modern technology, so I’ve devised a course that will help you in these situations. It doesn’t matter if you need to schedule a Zoom meeting with 100 colleagues, or you’re simply wondering about the best way to chat with overseas friends online, I’ve got all the phrasings and wordings to use.

Finally, the pandemic has shown me that science is still woefully misunderstood by many, so I’ve got a great course that can help both scientists and newbies! I’ve always been passionate about science and learning, which drove me to obtain a broad degree covering biology, chemistry, and environmental sciences. I also know the importance of communication in science. After all, the most amazing discovery in the world is meaningless, if you can’t communicate it with the public and other scientists. So, my course will help students understand the everyday science they read in new articles every day, and it will also have more specific guidance for those who wish to write their own scientific articles!

Wow! With so much good stuff coming, you can see why I’m optimistic for 2022. I hope I can spread that optimism to you! I hope to see you in person, safely, as soon as Japan opens its borders once more.
