Before you go

Before you join me, there are a few things you need to do. Think of these as ‘homework’! Don’t worry though, you’ll enjoy them! Also, they’ll help you get the most out of your trip!

Watch our videos!

We’ve prepared lots of videos to help you get to know us, and to learn a little bit before you come on the camp. Head over to our Life page for the full list of videos.

Pack and read!

Make sure you have our ‘Essential English for travellers’ handbook in your luggage, and don’t forget to practice the phrases before coming!

Interact with your fellow campers!

You’re going to love your camp, but not just because of your hosts and the location ;). You’ll make new like-minded friends who are passionate about English and discovering new places! Visit the camp forums to get acquainted with everyone before meeting them for real during the camp!

Send 3 interesting facts to Erika-sensei

We have a few fun activities over the camp, so help Erika-sensei prepare! Before the weekend of the camp, send Erika-sensei 3 interesting facts about yourself. They can be anything, but the sillier the better. For example, Erika-sensei might write these 3 things about herself:

  • Consumes copious amounts of green tea daily (but cannot drink coffee)
  • Has studied ikebana, tea ceremony and Japanese calligraphy
  • Was already interested in kanji in elementary school!

Bring something for Show and Tell

There will be lots of you on the first day. So, what better way to learn about each other than to do a self-introduction! Don’t worry, it can be short and sweet. If possible though, bring something that you can talk about. It can be something small, like a picture, so you don’t have to worry about not having enough space in your suitcase!
