Let’s talk about Kerala today!<\/span><\/p>\n

Kerala is considered to be India’s most tranquil state. It is famously known as God’s Own Country.\u00a0 <\/span>It is situated on the coast of the Arabian Sea and boasts of many beaches. It also contains hills which are used for cultivating spice and tea. You can find wildlife reserves and pleasant hill stations such as Munnar. Kerala is famous for its backwaters and sophisticated houseboats. You can also get Ayurvedic treatment here! Moreover, Kerala is filled with elephants and exotic birds. <\/span><\/p>\n

Kerala has the highest literacy rate in India and is known for its gender equality and low mother-infant mortality ratio. It also ensures excellent health standards and education for everyone. Social justice and law and order are especially advanced in this state. <\/span><\/p>\n\"\"\n

Kerala has a rich cultural heritage. Sculpture, music and dance are advanced art forms in this state. Kathakali and Mohiniattam are some famous dances of Kerala. These dances have folk origins and have developed into highly sophisticated dance forms which are celebrated and performed throughout India.<\/span><\/p>\n

Let’s talk about Munnar. It is a famous hill station in Kerala. It is known for its tea estates and its majestic greenery. Some of the world’s largest tea estates are located here. It is one of the most well-known hill stations of Kerala. It is located on the banks of three rivers – Madupetti, Nallathanni and Periavaru. The major attractions of Munnar are its tea plantations as well as the Eravkulam National park and the Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary. <\/span><\/p>\n\"\"\n

Let’s move on to Kerala’s food. Kerala is famous for its seafood cuisine as well as its vegetarian cuisine. Food is had by using the fingers from a plate that is covered with a banana leaf. Coconut and coconut curry are used to thicken curries and Kerala’s famous spices lend flavor to dishes. Kerala is composed of several communities such as the Brahmins, the Nairs, the Thiyyas, the Ezhavas, the Muslims and the Christians and they each have their own special dishes which are made during festive occasions. The main food of this state is rice. The typical Kerala cuisine consists of rice along with curries made from vegetables, eggs, fish and meat. Rice and coconut make up the basis of Kerala cuisine. <\/span><\/p>\n\"\"\n

I’m sure you must have heard of Ayurveda before. It is a traditional system of healing that has existed for centuries in India. It is widely practiced in Kerala and has health benefits that have been recognized all over the world. It was around 600 B.C when Ayurveda evolved in India. It has its basis in the theory that the body consists of three humours, vatta, pitta and kapha which need to be in balance in order for the body to remain in good health. <\/span><\/p>\n\"\"\n

Kerala is home to many festivals. The state comes to life during its grand festivals. There are festivals connected to religions and secular festivals as well. The national festival of Kerala is Onam. Kerala has its own original and native sports and folk games. Kalaaripayattu is a famous martial art form that was developed in Kerala. <\/span><\/p>\n

What is the word I would like you to remember for today? It is ‘sophisticated’ which I have used twice in this blog. Here are some examples showing how to use this word. <\/span><\/p>\n
