All of us love going out to restaurants! <\/span><\/p>\n

There are certain English terms used when going to restaurants. Let’s take a look at these terms: <\/span><\/p>\n

Menu: <\/span><\/h3>\n

This is a list of dishes available in a restaurant. <\/span><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. I took a look at the menu. <\/span><\/li>\n
  2. The menu contained some unusual food items I had never tasted before.<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. I went over the menu and decided to order a bowl of noodles.<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. The menu was written in French, so I could not understand it. <\/span><\/li>\n
  5. The menu was written in English, Japanese and Italian. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

     <\/p>\n

    Waiter:<\/span><\/h3>\n

    This is a man or a woman who serves customers at their tables in a restaurant. <\/span><\/p>\n

    1. I was impressed by the efficiency of the waiter.<\/span><\/li>\n
    2. I had a part-time job as a waiter when I was in college.<\/span><\/li>\n
    3. The waiter who served us was respectful and gracious.<\/span><\/li>\n
    4. The waiter took my order politely. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      A la carte: <\/span><\/h3>\n

      This refers to food at a restaurant that can be ordered as separate items, rather than part of a set meal. <\/span><\/p>\n

      2. We went for the buffet as the \u00e0 la carte items were too expensive.<\/span><\/li>\n

        2. It is a good idea to make a reservation in advance as this restaurant is really popular.<\/span><\/li>\n
        3. I had to cancel the reservation I made as I fell sick. <\/span><\/li>\n

        5. I would like to make a reservation at your restaurant.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

           <\/p>\n

          Order: <\/span><\/h3>\n

          This is the act of telling the waiter the dishes you want to eat. <\/span><\/p>\n

          1. I ordered a chicken fried rice. <\/span><\/li>\n
          2. She ordered some dumplings.<\/span><\/li>\n
          3. He ordered a chocolate pudding for dessert.<\/span><\/li>\n
          4. When I ordered the chicken curry, I was told it wasn’t available.<\/span><\/li>\n
          5. I always order spicy dishes when I go to a restaurant. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

            Chef: <\/span><\/h3>\n

            This refers to a professional cook who whips up dishes at a restaurant.<\/span><\/p>\n

            1. My friend is a famous chef.<\/span><\/li>\n
            2. I have been working as a chef for the past 15 years.<\/span><\/li>\n
            3. My brother wants to become a chef in the future. <\/span><\/li>\n
            4. Being a chef is a challenging and tiring job. <\/span><\/li>\n
            5. I am training to be a chef.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

               <\/p>\n

              Bartender: <\/span><\/h3>\n

              This refers to a person serving drinks at a bar. <\/span><\/p>\n

              1. He took up a part-time job as a bartender.<\/span><\/li>\n
              2. I hate my job as a bartender and will quit soon.<\/span><\/li>\n
              3. The bartender was super friendly and I had a good chat with him.<\/span><\/li>\n
              4. He works as a bartender on weekends.<\/span><\/li>\n
              5. Being a bartender can be a fun job. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                Main course: <\/span><\/h3>\n

                T<\/span>his is the most substantial part of a meal. <\/span><\/p>\n

                1. The main course was delicious.<\/span><\/li>\n
                2. It took me a while to order the main course.<\/span><\/li>\n
                3. I thoroughly enjoyed the main course. <\/span><\/li>\n

                  Dessert: <\/span><\/h3>\n

                  This is the sweet food item eaten at the end of a meal. <\/span><\/p>\n

                  2. The desserts on offer were delicious. <\/span><\/li>\n
                  3. My friend decided to skip the dessert.<\/span><\/li>\n
                  4. We wanted to order a dessert but gave up the idea as it was getting late. <\/span><\/li>\n
                  5. The dessert was way more delicious than I had thought.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
