Take that with a grain of salt of course!

Have you heard the phrase ‘take something with a grain of salt’？

By the way, have you heard the phrase ‘take something with a grain of salt’ before? It means ‘be sceptical of something’ or ‘you might not be able to trust it’.

For example,

Nic said he will be here soon, but take that with a grain of salt. He’s usually quite late!

Picking up where I left off!

Here, we use it to emphasise Nic’s unreliability! So, take my boasting about Fruitful English earlier with a grain of salt, because of course, I’m biased; I’m an instructor there!

Anyway, where was I? Oh, that’s right! I’m back here, writing a monthly blog about different English learning topics, and about English culture in general.

For this first post after a long hiatus, I’ll be picking up where I left off last time. Oh, there’s another useful phrase! The phrase ‘to pick up where one left off’ means to continue something that was postponed earlier.

For example,

We picked up where we left off, laughing about things that we did together in high school.

Trip to the Old World！

If you read my previous blog, you saw that I was in the ‘the Old World’. Of course, you know that ‘Old World’ is a slightly funny way to refer to Europe, at least, from a Canadian perspective. For those that don’t know me well, I’m from Vancouver, Canada, and we sometimes jokingly call Europe ’the Old World’.

Anyway, I’m preparing for another trip to the Old World! My partner is also an instructor on Fruitful English, and we’re both heading back to Europe for her sister’s wedding! She’s from Germany, but her sister is having the ceremony in Italy. Despite the costs involved, we’re both looking forward to a summer full of pizza, pasta, and other delicious Italian delicacies.

Have any of you been to Italy?

Any suggestions on what to eat or do while I’m there? I would love to hear from you, so please get in touch with me on Fruitful English! This will actually be my third time to Italy, but my first time to the Florence area, and central Italy. I couldn’t be more excited. Let’s hope I survive the flight though! It’s a long one!

Anyways, let’s finish up there.

Thanks so much for reading, and I’ll be seeing you every month from now on. I’m so excited! Bye for now!

※大人気Nic先生の英語ブログ、過去の記事をもっと読みたい方は、こちらからどうぞ！

I’m back everyone!
