Hey there everyone!<\/p>\n
Happy August, and I hope you’re all staying safe and cool this summer. Summers just keep getting hotter and hotter in Japan. I really wonder when it\u2019s going to end!<\/p>\n
I do love summer, but I wonder when it will even be too hot for me to tolerate, let alone all the other organisms in the world.<\/p>\n
This time, I\u2019m writing to you from Germany! My partner usually goes back to Germany in summer, both because of the heat and to work (she is a social worker at a school), and I decided this would be a great year to visit her, since she\u2019s always coming to Japan to see me!<\/p>\n
And, luckily, thanks to the universal appeal of English, I can survive around the world with it!<\/p>\n
For this trip, I flew via the Netherlands, and Amsterdam Airport. Honestly, a few times, I had to check to make sure where I was! English was everywhere.<\/p>\n
I was actually curious about the official language in the Netherlands, as some signs were only in English! Plus, everyone, at least in the airport, spoke fluently. I was very impressed with their pronunciation, and I thought it was a great reason for students to seriously practice with a native speaker.<\/p>\n
While it\u2019s important to learn different accents, if you practice learning a standard British or North American (US or Canada) accent, I think you will easily be able to understand the vast majority of English dialects spoken around the world, with some notable exceptions like the Indian and Filipino accents, which even I as a native speaker find tricky!<\/p>\n
Similarly, the customs officials were completely fluent, to the point where, again, I wasn’t sure of the official language of the Netherlands. While I\u2019ve been to Europe many times, it\u2019s quite clear to me that language skills have been improving. Each time I visit, there are more and more areas where English is becoming more prevalent, or the overall language level is becoming higher and higher.<\/p>\n
So, is there a moral to my story?<\/p>\n
Well, as Europe shows, it\u2019s possible to improve your English! So, why not improve it today! Open up the world and experience everything there is to see. English is your key!<\/p>\n
