It\u2019s March, and if you’ll forgive me, I want to \u2018toot my own horn\u2019 in this month\u2019s blog.<\/p>\n
By the way, have you ever heard that old-fashioned phrasing: \u2018toot one\u2019s own horn\u2019?<\/p>\n
It\u2019s a classic old phrasing to describe \u2018showing off\u2019 or \u2018boasting\u2019 slightly. Of course, it\u2019s normally a bad thing to \u2018boast\u2019 or \u2018show off\u2019.<\/p>\n
However, since the phrase \u2018toot one\u2019s own horn\u2019 is a humorous one, it emphasises boasting in a way that isn’t impressive or that good. So, it\u2019s a modest and friendly way to boast!<\/p>\n
Anyway, why am I tooting my own horn this month? Well, March just so happens to be my birthday month! So, you can understand if I\u2019m just a bit happier than normal this month!<\/p>\n
I used to care a lot about my age, and I wonder if any of you have felt the same way.<\/p>\n
I\u2019ve actually read some interesting math-based reviews of aging. When you’re young, say turning 2 years old, that equates to half of your life!<\/p>\n
So, birthdays when you’re young are a pretty big deal!However, the older you get, the less each year matters. One year later is only a few percentage points of your life.<\/p>\n
I\u2019m not sure exactly when I stopped really caring about my age.<\/p>\n
That being said, I might be a bit different, or at least my family might be a bit different, because we never \u2018put much stock\u2019, or put much importance, on birthdays. I think my mom always enjoyed her birthday, but certainly, my dad didn’t care that much!<\/p>\n
You can contrast that with my partner and her family. Like me, I don\u2019t think they really care about the specific number: age is just a number, after all!<\/p>\n
However, my partner and her family truly love birthdays and celebrating. That is just one of the many reasons we are together. She shows me something new, and brings me a new perspective on things as routine as birthdays!<\/p>\n
But, I digress! This year, I admit that I\u2019m not looking forward to my birthday!<\/p>\n
If I could have anything for my birthday, it would be for everyone to stop asking me \u2018what do you want to do for your birthday?\u2019 or \u2018What do you want for your birthday?\u2019<\/p>\n
Honestly, I don\u2019t need or want anything. However, I truly appreciate anything and everything that people do to celebrate my birth!<\/p>\n
As long as it\u2019s with family and friends, I\u2019ll be happy!<\/p>\n
