Exaggerated and Sarcastic Sayings and their Opposites"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hi, everyone!<\/p>\n<p>Here are a few sayings and idioms that are often used, and their opposites.<\/p>\n<p>We also go into a bit of sarcasm, which is often used as well. \u00a0Sarcasm is a type of humor that is often opposite in meaning to the reality and is used everyday &#8211; especially between friends.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>\u4f7f\u3048\u308b\uff01\u53cd\u5bfe\u306e\u610f\u5473\u306e\u82f1\u8a9e\u30a4\u30c7\u30a3\u30aa\u30e0<\/h2>\n<p>You may have heard the saying<strong>\u201cClear as crystal\u201d, &#8220;crystal clear\u201d<\/strong>, or <strong>&#8220;clear as day\u201d, <\/strong>and these mean you understand or comprehend something well, however the opposite of this is <strong>\u201cClear as mud!\u201d, <\/strong>and this means you have no idea what is being explained or you do not understand the thing being discussed at all.<\/p>\n<p>Next we have<strong>\u201cThis thing weighs a ton!\u201d, <\/strong>which is often used when we are carrying something heavy like a box or even if it is something small but is heavier than it appears to be &#8211; like my mums handbag for example.<\/p>\n<p>The opposite of this would be<strong>\u201cIt is lighter than a feather!\u201d<\/strong> &#8211; a new laptop or cell phone would be an example of this as these days those gadgets are very light.<\/p>\n<p>And, we also have <strong>&#8220;The best of both worlds\u201d, <\/strong>which means you can enjoy two different opportunities at the same time.<\/p>\n<p>The opposite of this is<strong>&#8220;Miss the boat\u201d, <\/strong>which means when someone has missed their opportunity to do something (they missed their boat).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>\u4f7f\u3048\u308b\u82f1\u8a9e\u30a4\u30c7\u30a3\u30aa\u30e0\uff01\u5929\u6c17\u306e\u8a71\u984c\u306f\u76ae\u8089\u3092\u8fbc\u3081\u3066\uff01\uff1f<\/h2>\n<p>Next up, the weather, which we often use a bit of sarcasm with.<\/p>\n<p>Often when we meet up with friends and it is a nice sunny day, we might say <strong>\u201cTerrible weather we are having isn\u2019t it?\u201d<\/strong> was a sort of joke, and vice versa if it is horrible rainy day wee often say <strong>\u201cbeautiful weather today isn\u2019t it?&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>\u89aa\u3057\u3044\u53cb\u9054\u540c\u58eb\u3067\u4f7f\u3048\u308b\u76ae\u8089\u3092\u8fbc\u3081\u305f\u82f1\u8a9e\u30a4\u30c7\u30a3\u30aa\u30e0\u306f\u3053\u308c\uff01<\/h2>\n<div class=\"u-serif-font-main--regular\">\n<div class=\"ui_qtext_expanded\">\n<p class=\"ui_qtext_para u-ltr u-text-align--start\">Next up, <strong>&#8220;Fat chance\u201d<\/strong> &#8211; This is used sarcastically to mean a very slim chance.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ui_qtext_para u-ltr u-text-align--start\">Next. we have <strong>&#8220;I could care less\u201d,<\/strong> \u00a0which is used sarcastically to mean I couldn&#8217;t care less and and &#8220;I couldn&#8217;t care less&#8221; means it would be impossible to care less than I care, because I care so little.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ui_qtext_para u-ltr u-text-align--start\"><strong>&#8220;That takes the cake&#8221; <\/strong>&#8211; used sarcastically to mean that&#8217;s the worst.\u00a0 (Originally to &#8220;take the cake&#8221; meant to win a cake as a prize in a contest.)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>&#8220;That leaves a lot to be desired\u201d<\/strong> is next, and depending on who uses it can mean a lot to be desired or very little that is desirable.<\/p>\n<p>Lastly we have <strong>\u201cA snowball\u2019s chance in hell\u201d<\/strong> which means something is near impossible. \u00a0This is because hell is supposed to be very hot and if a snowball was there, it would have no chance because it would melt.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\u3044\u304b\u304c\u3067\u3057\u305f\u304b\uff1f<\/div>\n<div>\u662f\u975e\u307f\u306a\u3055\u3093\u3082\u6d3b\u7528\u3057\u3066\u304f\u3060\u3055\u3044\u306d\u3002<\/div>\n<div id=\"wK39wSwS28\"><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hi, everyone!
