\u3046\u3063\u304b\u308a\u9593\u9055\u3046\u3068\u5927\u5909\u3001\u53e5\u8aad\u70b9\u306e\u4f4d\u7f6e\u306b\u6ce8\u610f\uff01"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hello everyone,<\/p>\n<p>I thought I might write a little on the importance of knowing how to use punctuation &#8211; especially the comma and full stop (period) can really change the meaning of a sentence.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some examples with all punctuation in red:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h1><strong>1.<\/strong> &#8220;<strong>Man finds inspiration in cooking his family and his cat<\/strong>&#8220;.<\/h1>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-8654 size-medium aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.fruitfulenglish.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/iStock-119130640-300x201.jpg\" alt=\"&quot;Man finds inspiration in cooking his family and his cat&quot;.\" width=\"300\" height=\"201\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.fruitfulenglish.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/iStock-119130640-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.fruitfulenglish.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/iStock-119130640-718x481.jpg 718w, https:\/\/www.fruitfulenglish.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/iStock-119130640.jpg 723w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>\n<p>Now if we read this we see the man is actually cooking his family and his cat, so let\u2019s add some commas(in red) and fix this&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<strong>Man finds inspiration in cooking<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">,<\/span> his family<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">,<\/span> and his cat<\/strong>\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Now we can see he is not cooking his family or his cat, but <strong>he finds inspiration in three things: cooking<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">,<\/span> his family<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">,<\/span> and his cat.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h1><strong>2.<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>\u201cWoman without her man is nothing\u201d<\/strong>.<\/h1>\n<p>Now this one is a bit contentious, because I bet if we ask men to put punctuation into this sentence, they might write:<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cWoman<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">,<\/span> without her man<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">,<\/span> is nothing.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This means of course that a woman needs a man or she is nothing&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>However perhaps women would write<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cWoman<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">:<\/span> Without her<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">,<\/span> man is nothing\u201d.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This of course means the opposite to what the men might write and means\u201dwith regard to woman, without one, man is nothing!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>3.<\/strong> This next one could save grandma\u2019s life if we just add a comma&#8230;<\/p>\n<h1><strong>\u201cLet\u2019s eat grandma!\u201d\u00a0<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p>This means we will actually eat grandma, but let\u2019s place that comma well and fix it:<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cLet\u2019s eat, grandma!\u201d\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There thats better, now we are only telling grandma we are going to eat some food &#8211; not her!<\/p>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-8655 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.fruitfulenglish.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/iStock-969136426-300x186.jpg\" alt=\"\u201cLet\u2019s eat, grandma!\u201d \" width=\"300\" height=\"186\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.fruitfulenglish.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/iStock-969136426-300x186.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.fruitfulenglish.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/iStock-969136426-718x445.jpg 718w, https:\/\/www.fruitfulenglish.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/iStock-969136426.jpg 750w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>4.<\/strong> This one definitely needs fixing&#8230;.<\/p>\n<h1><strong>\u201cPlease use caution when shooting pedestrians using foot trails\u201d.\u00a0<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p>This means to be careful when you are shooting pedestrians on hiking trails &#8211; we don\u2019t shoot pedestrians, so let\u2019s fix this&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cPlease use caution when shooting<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">.<\/span> Pedestrians using foot trails\u201d.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Now it means be careful when shooting \u201cbecause\u201d there are pedestrians around honking on foot trails.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>5.<\/strong> I have never seen this kind of child, have you?<\/p>\n<h1><strong>&#8220;This seat is only for disabled elderly pregnant children\u201d. \u00a0<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p>This means that the seat is only for children who are disabled, elderly and pregnant! Let\u2019s fix it with some commas&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;This seat is only for disabled<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">,<\/span> elderly<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">,<\/span> pregnant<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">,<\/span> children\u201d.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s better, no it means the seat is for either disabled, or elderly, or pregnant women, or children only.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>For our last one, here is a road sign you might see when driving near a school. <strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<h1><strong>\u201cSlow kids at play\u201d.\u00a0<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p>What? Only \u201cslow&#8221; kids are playing? \u00a0There are no fast ones? Let\u2019s fix it&#8230; also with a simple comma:<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cSlow<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">,<\/span> kids at play\u201d. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Now it means go slow because kids are playing around here.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As you can see punctuation is very important and can change the whole meaning of a sentence, sometimes quite humorously, so don\u2019t forget to check it before you submit your work!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hello everyone, I thought I might write a little on the importance of knowing how to use punctuation &#8211; especially the comma and full stop (period) can really change the meaning of a sentence.
