Abbreviations on the other hand is a shortened version of a word.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>ABBREVIATION<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">E.g.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>I <\/i><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><i>srsly<\/i><\/span><span class=\"s1\"><i> think you should go to the dance with Peter.<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cSeriously\u201d here is shortened to speed things up when typing. Of course this can only be done over text or in informal situations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">An abbreviation that can be used in formal situations is as follows:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">E.g.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>The weight of the baby is <\/i><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><i>approx.<\/i><\/span><span class=\"s1\"><i> 3kg.<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Abbreviations can be used in writing as well, but unlike <i>srsly<\/i>, &#8220;formal&#8221; abbreviations are shortened in such a way that the original spelling is still there but the word is halved or sectioned off. Conversely, abbreviations in informal settings can be shortened in any way a person fancies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Anyway, back to <strong>ACRONYMS<\/strong>!<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"p1\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><span class=\"s2\">SNS\u3067\u3088\u304f\u4f7f\u308f\u308c\u308b\u7565\u8a9e\uff01Commonly used acronyms in social media<\/span><\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">brb: be right back<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">imo: in my opinion<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">fb: Facebook<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">ig: Instagram<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">irl: in real life<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">ikr: I know right<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">tbh: to be honest<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"p1\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><span class=\"s2\">\u30d5\u30a9\u30fc\u30de\u30eb\u306b\u4f7f\u3048\u308b\u82f1\u8a9e\u306e\u7565\u8a9e\uff01Acronyms in more formal situations<\/span><\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">You\u2019ve got the well-known ones like:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">NBA (National Basketball Association)<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration)<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation)<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">tbh, these acronyms are so popular and widely-used that most people don\u2019t know what each word stands for (I actually had to google them too oops). <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The above examples are usually names of organizations that we hardly ever use in our day-to-day lives. On the other hand, commonly used acronyms will also depend on what field you\u2019re in. Because someone in business or finance may talk about ROIs (Return on Investments) and COGS (Cost of Good Sold) but these may not mean anything to someone in science for instance.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"p1\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><span class=\"s2\">\u65e5\u5e38\u751f\u6d3b\u3067\u4f7f\u3048\u308b\u82f1\u8a9e\u306e\u7565\u8a9e\uff01Acronyms that are a little more helpful in our daily lives<\/span><\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">ASAP: as soon as possible<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Ts &amp; Cs: terms and conditions<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">DOB: date of birth<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">ETA: estimated time of arrival<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">FAQ: frequently asked questions<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">FYI: for your information<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">RSVP: retournez s\u2019il vous plait (this is derived from French but simply means \u201cplease reply\u201d, usually to an invitation)<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">At the end of the day, the key to using acronyms is to make sure your reader or listener knows what you\u2019re talking about.
