You could keep the magic alive, <\/span>extend the honeymoon period indefinitely<\/b> and, by protecting your space and <\/span>rationing<\/b> your time together, create a scenario in which you were actually happy to see each other. Trends originating with celebrities tend to be fake, meaningless or <\/span>massaged<\/b>, but the appeal of this model has <\/span>lingered on<\/b>. <\/span>Overlooking<\/b> the small matter of money, what, exactly, is there not to like?<\/span><\/p>\n

In the New York Times this week \u2013 <\/span>sound the klaxon<\/b> \u2013 a\u00a0<\/span>new trends piece<\/span><\/a>\u00a0drops on the growing numbers of women in the US who, post-pandemic, <\/span>are opting to <\/b>sustain the separate household model of marriage, established during lockdown by some families to reduce Covid transmissions, and proving so<\/span> preferable <\/b>to the norm, apparently, that they\u2019re <\/span>in no hurry to<\/b> reunite with their husbands.<\/span><\/p>\n

Judging by case studies in the article, for some women, <\/span>quarantining <\/b>in a quiet, separate residence while their <\/span>husbands shouldered the caretaking at home<\/b>, <\/span>struck them at the level of a revelation<\/b>. For others, the fact that even a global pandemic did little to undermine \u2013 or in some cases, actively deepened \u2013 the division of labour at home along traditional gender lines had <\/span>a straw-that-broke-it <\/b>effect.<\/span><\/p>\n
