Hi everyone,<\/span><\/p>\n

Back in April I posted about groups of animals in English<\/a><\/strong>, getting up to “G” in the alphabet, so now let’s continue this weird foray into English starting of with “H”.<\/span><\/p>\n

    \nThis one makes sense because in English “cackle” means laugh, and that is exactly what hyenas do.
    \n<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

  • A shadow of Jaguars<\/strong>…
    \nJaguars are cats, and reclusive ones at that so this one makes sense also.

    \"\u30b8\u30e3\u30ac\u30fc\u3092\u4f7f\u3063\u305f\u82f1\u8a9e\u30a4\u30c7\u30a3\u30aa\u30e0\u3067\u82f1\u4f5c\u6587\u3092\u4f5c\u3063\u3066\u307f\u3088\u3046\"

    Jaguar<\/p><\/div><\/li>\n

  • A smack of jellyfish.<\/strong>..
    \na smack in this context means a taste or flavor, especially a slight flavor distinctive or suggestive of something.
    \nFor example: The chicken had just a smack of garlic. I guess jellyfish touch you slightly and very gently, so this is how they get their group name…?
    \n<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
    \"\u30af\u30e9\u30b2\u3092\u4f7f\u3063\u305f\u82f1\u8a9e\u30a4\u30c7\u30a3\u30aa\u30e0\u3067\u82f1\u4f5c\u6587\u3092\u4f5c\u3063\u3066\u307f\u3088\u3046\"

  • A mob of kangaroos<\/strong>…
    \nKangaroos like to box and a bunch of them together boxing I can picture that.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Let’s skip to “O” and find a parliament of owls.
    \nParliament means a meeting or assembly for a conference on public or national affairs… in other words a meeting of politicians.
    \nOwls look wise and are probably more wise than any politician. True words?<\/span><\/p>\n

    • Stingrays – a fever of stingrays<\/strong>…
      \nI am not sure why a group of stingrays is called a fever, because they actually look like a bunch of tablecloths.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
      \"\u30a8\u30a4\u3092\u4f7f\u3063\u305f\u82f1\u8a9e\u30a4\u30c7\u30a3\u30aa\u30e0\u3067\u82f1\u4f5c\u6587\u3092\u4f5c\u3063\u3066\u307f\u3088\u3046\"

      Stingrays<\/p><\/div><\/li>\n

    • Swans in a group<\/strong> are called a bevy or game, but if they are flying they are called a wedge.
      \nA wedge is triangular in shape and as swans fly in a triangular shape together, they garner this name.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
    • “W” now and let’s look at wolves.
      \nA “pack” of wolves<\/strong> is the term and pack means a group of certain animals of the same kind, especially predatory ones… so a pack of wolves, a pack of sharks<\/strong> etc.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Lastly “Z”… <\/span><\/p>\n

      • a “zeal<\/strong>” – this means a bunch of zebras<\/strong>.
        \n<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        Zebras<\/p><\/div>\n

        Some weird names for all of these animals, we don’t know why but we use these names anyway… Most native speakers will be surprised if you quiz them with these names!
        \nGo ahead and test them!<\/span><\/p>\n
